Free Signups for Community-Buying Discounts Begin

CUMMING, Ga. — Solarize Forsyth, a new local renewable energy coalition, is publicly launching a campaign aimed at making solar energy more affordable for local homeowners, businesses and nonprofits.

The campaign offers an opportunity to install solar energy infrastructure at your home or business. By buying solar and battery storage along with others in the community, you’ll tap the combined purchasing power of other Forsyth residents as well as take advantage of a federal tax credit further lowering the cost of your system’s purchase.

A special local launch event will take place at United Way - Forsyth County on Thursday, July 14th from 6:30-8:00 p.m. at 240 Elm St. in Cumming.

The campaign kickoff event will feature:

  • Remarks from Rep. Todd Jones, Georgia House of Representatives, District 25 (South Forsyth and North Fulton);
  • Leaders from multiple community organizations who initiated and support Solarize Forsyth;
  • Experts in solar energy and from the installation company chosen through competitive bidding;
  • Information about the benefits of solar energy and battery storage; and
  • How local homeowners and businesses can enroll for a free assessment of their property through Solarize Forsyth.

“Our goal for Solarize Forsyth is to simplify the process of getting solar power and help bring down individual property owner costs by purchasing solar energy together” said Pankaj Rajankar of Green Cell Atlanta. “This is a unique opportunity for us to unify in a way that makes renewable energy an affordable option for a greater number of our fellow residents and businesses than if we purchase solar separately.”

"The focus of the Kiwanis Club of Forsyth County is to serve the children in our community. This also means doing our part to protect our planet for generations to come,” said Terry Gates, Kiwanis Club of Forsyth County’s Environmental Committee Chair. “We are excited for this opportunity to promote solar energy in our community and take this step to combat climate change."

Following a rigorous evaluation process conducted, the Solarize Forsyth coalition selected Summit Solar to provide local property owners with this volume purchasing opportunity. A representative from the company and other local solar advocates will be among the participants in the special launch event.

“Summit Solar is extremely honored to participate in the Solarize Forsyth program,” said Josh Williams, President and CEO of Summit Solar. “Summit is excited to bring our premium customer experience to this program, delivering the best products and incredible-looking installations. With rising utility rates and current solar programs, there has never been a better time for Georgians to go solar.”

Once the campaign launches on July 14, home and business owners will have a limited time to access the lower-than-typical prices being made available through the campaign’s joint purchasing power. Valuable federal tax credits may provide 26 percent in additional savings in 2022 where applicable.

The goal of Solarize Forsyth’s campaign is to serve local property owners by helping them become familiar with these incentives and programs, learn the benefits of solar energy and battery storage systems, and offer a free, customized solar evaluation and estimate from a trusted source.

Following the launch, Solarize Forsyth will further host clean energy education and community outreach events to help increase local participation and encourage all solar and battery installations to be complete by March 31, 2023.
