for Triad Properly Owners Set for Aug. 27

WINSTON-SALEM, NC — The newly launched regionwide community-based group-buying program Solarize the Triad has quickly reached its 3rd price tier based on early commitments from Triad property owners to purchase new renewable energy systems for their homes.

The more residents and business owners who contract for solar installations through Solarize the Triad, the more savings for all participants. The 3rd price tier in the program (between $2.40-$2.55/watt, depending on equipment selected) was reached through initial contracts totaling 153.2 total kW.

Once these installations are activated, 309,915 lbs. of CO2 in the Triad region will be avoided – the equivalent of removing more than 33 gasoline-powered passenger vehicles from the road for a year. Battery purchases have also accompanied nearly every  system, adding to these homes’ reliability and sustainability.

Property owners who purchase early during the Solarize the Triad campaign, will receive a rebate based on the lowest-price tier reached. (There are eight tiers in all.) In addition, Duke Energy Carolinas is offering rebates for customers participating in their PowerPair program, and a federal tax credit of 30 percent for newly installed solar energy systems and batteries are available.

“The Solarize the Triad program offers a unique opportunity for Triad-area residents to get a best-in-class solar and battery storage system at a group discount rate and realize additional utility and government incentives available for a limited time,” said Don Moreland, President of Solar Crowdsource which administers the program. “Together, with system design and installation through a reputable company such as Renu Energy Solutions, this makes the case to go solar very compelling, " he said.

A newly formed local public-private coalition in The Triad developed and launched the unique group purchasing program. Enrollment is under way now through Dec. 31 at solarizethetriad.com.

To help Triad property owners – including both residential and business owners – learn more about the Solarize campaign’s many aspects, a free public online Zoom event is scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 27 from 6-7:30 p.m.  RSVP here for the Zoom link. This virtual info session will feature:

  • Members of the community-based coalition that forged Solarize the Triad;
  • Experts in solar energy from Renu Energy Solutions, the installer company chosen by the Coalition through competitive bidding;
  • Details about the benefits of solar energy and battery storage;
  • Financing information, including federal tax incentives;
  • How one can enroll for a free solar-energy assessment of their residence or place of business through Solarize the Triad.

Solarize the Triad is currently encouraging enrollment in the campaign since its official launch on July 23. Those interested may go to SolarizetheTriad.com to learn more about the program and sign up to receive a free evaluation. There is no obligation to receive a proposal and consider purchasing a system.
